Medal of Valor awarded to slain San Miguel Police Chief Serna, rewards for killers' arrest raised
STA. ROSA, Nueva Ecija – The Philippine National Police awarded the ‘Medalya ng Kadakilaan’ (Medal of Valor) to San Miguel, Bulacan Chief Police Lt. Col. Marlon Serna on Monday, March 27.
The posthumous award was awarded to Lt. Col. Serna who died on Saturday, March 25, in the line of duty.

The award was personally handed over by Police Regional Office 3 Director Police Brigadier General Jose S Hidalgo Jr who visited the wake of the slain police chief in Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija. Brigadier Gen. Hidalgo Jr also handed over financial assistance to his wife. Serna personally accompanied the police personnel who were responding to an alleged robbery in Brgy. San Juan, San Miguel, Bulacan. Said police personnel immediately proceeded at the scene to conduct follow up investigation and hot pursuit. Upon reaching the dark portion of Brgy. Bohol na Mangga, in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, responding team chanced upon two unidentified men on board a motorcycle who opened fire on them. Unfortunately, Lt. Col. Was hit on the head and eventually died in a hospital. Meanwhile, the reward for anyone who could provide vital information that would lead to the arrest of the killers of Serna has been raised to P1.7 million after San Miguel Mayor Roderick Tiongson added P500,000 more. General Hidalgo said that “SITG SERNA” headed by the Provincial Director of Bulacan, Col. Relly Arnedo, to fast track the solution of the case.
