Marcos seeks Pag-IBIG's help in his admin's mission to build 1M houses yearly
After lauding the Pag-IBIG Fund for posting its highest dividend rates since the pandemic, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has asked the Fund to help in the government's massive project to build one million houses every year.
Speaking at the Pag-IBIG Fund Chairman’s Report on Tuesday, March 28, Marcos encouraged the agency to build on this momentum to assist the country's housing backlog.
"I call upon the Fund to further build on this growth and momentum to provide and to improve the lot of the Filipino workforce, and also to significantly assist in addressing our housing backlog as an industry leader in home mortgage financing," Marcos said.
"I will issue a challenge to the Fund: work closely with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), saddled as it is by budgetary constraints, in order to find effective strategies to ease our housing situation, by leveraging on your industry [experience], the expertise and acumen that you have gained," the President further said.
Pag-IBIG Fund posted an increase of 6.53 percent for regular savings, while the Modified Pag-IBIG 2 Savings (MP2) had a 7.03-percent hike for 2022.
The agency’s net income reached a record high P44.50 billion, a 28-percent increase from the P34.69 billion the prior year.
It also reported several record high figures for the year, with home loans reaching P117.85 billion; total membership savings collected amounting to P79.90 billion and loan payments amounting to P127.42 billion.
The national savings program also assisted the highest number of members with 105,212 securing new homes from Pag-IBIG’s housing loan programs and over 2.61 million aided through its short-term loans.
The agency ended the year with total assets at its highest, amounting to P827.40 billion.
"These figures are undeniable proof not only of the Fund’s success, but also of how its operations have redounded to the benefit of its individual members and to the nation’s economy as a whole," he said.
"It makes me proud that your agency’s stewardship of our national savings program has successfully provided affordable shelter financing for our people," he also said.
The chief executive also issued a reminder to officials and employees to ensure the soundness of the Fund’s financial position and the safety of the people's contributions and investments.
"I enjoin all your officers and employees to be guided by the principles of transparency and accountability as you always have in carrying out your mandate and ensuring judicious management of the Fund and of the members’ hard-earned money," Marcos said.
"It goes without saying that as public servants, we must maintain the trust and the confidence reposed in us by government institutions, especially those financial in nature and more importantly by the people," he added.
Marcos also acknowledged the developers, employers, and housing industry players for their contributions to the Pag-IBIG Fund, as well as the 2.6 million-strong members of the Pag-IBIG Fund.
