17-year old male student dead, seven injured in Batangas road mishap

LIPA CITY, Batangas -- A minor was killed while seven others were injured including a police officer when a speeding car hit two tricycles and a motorcycle in Barangay Mabini on Monday evening, March 27, in this city. According to the Lipa City police, the car's driver, a 17-year-old male student and a resident of Plantacion Meridienne Subdivision, Brgy. The injured were Jomel Loto, 22, the driver of the Kawasaki tricycle, and Maria Claudine Loto, 24, both residents of Brgy. Mabini; Melvin Belino, 43, tricycle driver, and his passengers Marilou Belino, 45, sewer, Nancy Macuha, 47, Richelle Macuha, sewer and residents of Brgy. San Guillermo, and Police Staff Sergeant Niño Ian Leynes, 36, rider of Yamaha Nmax motorcycle and resident of Brgy. Rizal. At 6:50 p.m. the two tricycles and the motorcycle were crossing the said street when they were hit by a speeding sedan with license plate DAP3590 whose driver, a minor, died. Due to the strong impact, Belino's tricycle was dragged and hit Leynes' motorcycle which was on the opposite lane, while Loto's tricycle was thrown up and crashed into the house owned by Arnel Ferranculo, 44. The injured were rushed to the Lipa City District Hospital and Marilou was taken to Divine Love General, while the driver of the sedan car was declared dead upon arrival at the Lipa City District Hospital.
