Workers' group appreciates gov't's P5-K cash aid, but says it does not address their concerns

Defend Jobs Philippines (FACEBOOK / MANILA BULLETIN) Defend Jobs Philippines (FACEBOOK / MANILA BULLETIN) In a statement, the group said the financial assistance does not address the Filipino workers’ demands for the temporary suspension of the 'no work, no pay' policy, implementation of a 'no retrenchment policy,' and for the government to mandate private companies to immediately pay the 30-day salary of their employees regardless of employment status. On Tuesday, the Department of Labor and Employment issued Department Order 209, series of 2020 promulgating the guidelines on the implementation of the COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP). CAMP is a safety net program that offers financial support to affected workers in private establishments that have adopted flexible work arrangements (FWA) and temporary closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the order, a one-time financial assistance equivalent to P5,000 shall be provided to affected workers in a non-conditional lump sum amount regardless of employment status.
