By Argyll Cyrus Geducos Malacañang told the public that despite being imperfect, the country is winning the fight against the COVID-19, said Presidential spokesman Harry Roque a day before President Duterte is set to announce the new quarantine protocols applicable to all areas in the country starting July 1. (OPS / FILE PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) In his Monday press briefing, Roque said President Duterte will announce the new community quarantine classifications in the entire country on Tuesday, June 30, or the last day of the existing lockdown measures. According to Roque, the country is winning the fight against COVID-19, especially after it defied the number of cases projected by a University of the Philippines (UP) study. A UP study released early this month said the Philippines will have 40,000 cases by the end of June, a figure higher than the 35,455 cases reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday. "In terms of positivity rate, in terms of case-doubling rate, in terms of mortality rate, we are winning. As, in fact, we defied what was predicted by the UP study," he said. "Hinihimok ko kayo (I urge you), let's prove the UP data wrong. Let's have lesser cases of COVID-19," he added. 'We did our best' Roque said that the administration of President Duterte, despite being imperfect, is doing its best to address the COVID-19 pandemic. "Tama ba ang mga hakbang na ginawa ng ating gobyerno? Ang sagot po namin: Opo (Did the government take the correct steps? Our answer is yes)," he said. "Hindi po tayo perpekto. Siguro po talaga we could have done better. Pero nandito na po tayo (We are not perfect. Perhaps, we could have done better. But we're here now). And one thing I can assure you: The President did the very best that he can and we are in control of the situation," he added. The Palace official noted how the Philippines was able to defy the UP study that predicted that the country would reach 3.6 million COVID-19 cases by June if a lockdown would not be declared. "Saan po nagkulang ang Presidente? Ano pa po ang dapat ginawan niya? Naiwasan po ang 3.6 million cases ng COVID (Where did the President fall short? What more does he have to do? We have prevented 3.6 million COVID-19 cases)," Roque said. "Nung nagkaroon po tayo ng enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), ang mga kaso bumaba at talagang kayang-kaya natin magbigay lunas sa mga nagkakasakit (When we declared an ECQ, the number of cases went down and we were really able to take care of those who got sick)," he added.
