VRP Medical Center reaches full bed capacity amid surge of COVID-19 cases
The Victor R. Potenciano (VRP) Medical Center in Mandaluyong City announced on Wednesday (July 15) that the hospital has reached full bed capacity with the recent surge of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.
In a statement, hospital medical director Dr. Aileen Riego-Javier said the hospital has reached full bed capacity on their assigned floors, wards, emergency rooms, (ER) and intensive care units (ICUs).
Javier said just like any other hospital, their ER and ER Annex have been receiving more suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients. She added that their hospital annex and expanded screening area have triaged thousands of COVID-19 cases since March.
"Although we would like to continue serving our dear patients, we regret that we have reached our full capacity for COVID-19 admissions. It is our desire to fulfill our mission to provide medical care, but we must also ensure that the level of care remains uncompromised," she said in the hospital's statement.
However, the hospital will continue to provide COVID-19 testing for outpatients in the annex or ER if needed, according to the statement.
For ER patients requiring admission, the hospital says they will assist patients to find a hospital to which they can be transferred. (Jean Fernando)
