Valenzuela City confirmed Thursday its first case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Mayor Rex Gatchalian, in a Twitter post, said that as of March 19, a 34-year-old female resident of the city tested positive for COVID-19.
Gatchalian said she consulted a doctor at a private hospital in Manila after experiencing sore throat and fever.
"The patient has no travel history but has exposure to someone who traveled to Malaysia," he added.
Gatchalian said the patient is currently undergoing strict home quarantine and has mild flu-like symptoms.
The local government ensured that its epidemiology unit already did contract tracing and is monitoring those who had close contact with the patient.
Residents can ask questions about COVID-19 through the Valenzuela hotline 8352-5000.#
