The crew of a tug boat and two cargo barges from China that are anchored off the port of Dumaguete tested negative for the 2019-novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed.
(MANILA BULLETIN)
After the test results came in, PCG's port state control officers conducted a vessel inspection at the anchorage area, Joy Gumatay of the PCG Public Information Office said.
Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) officials also assessed the crew’s physical conditions, she added.
Representatives of various government agencies will hold a final briefing about the results of the inspection.
MTUG IMC 18, Barge IMC 19, and Barge IMC 20 arrived at the port of Dumaguete on Tuesday at about 11 a.m. PCG officials said their last port call was in Taizhou, China but their port of origin was in Belize.
Gumatay clarified that the crew was not prohibited to berth since they only intended to anchor their vessels.
However, no crew members were allowed off the sea vessels until the inspection was conducted.
The three vessels were acquired by local operator Industry Movers Corporation and are scheduled for refurbishing.
Gumatay said the crew is working on the conversion of the said vessels from foreign to domestic. Once converted, they can proceed to their next port call.
