Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año on Tuesday said the government is eyeing public transportation for health workers at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as mass transportation was suspended under the enhanced community quarantine imposed in the entire Luzon.

Año noted that the least the government can do for the health workers, who are now publicly considered as heroes, is to provide them with easier access to their workplaces and back home in the midst of the Luzon-wide community quarantine.
He said the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) could be tapped to provide transportation for the health workers.
Stressing further, Año said the local government units (LGUs) can provide transportation to the health workers.
“Puwede sila makipag-ugnayan sa local government unit. Puwede rin sa chief of police ng Quezon City para mabigyan sila ng kaukulang assistance kaagad-agad... sa checkpoint automatic lusot na talaga sila (They can coordinate with the local government units. They can also ask the help of the Quezon City police chief to provide them with the needed assistance immediately. They can breeze through the checkpoints easily),” Año said.
With Luzon under the enhanced community quarantine, Año appealed to the public for their understanding stressing that drastic measures are needed in the midst of the increasing number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.
