Despite the travel ban to stop the spread of the Covid-19, tourists with recent travels to China and its territories are still trying to enter popular beach destination Boracay Island.

“They tried to come in, but we stopped them,” said Mayor Frolibar Bautista of Malay town, Aklan province that has political jurisdiction over the resort island.
Bautista told Manila Bulletin Wednesday that 45 Chinese tourists were among those barred from entering Malay Tuesday during a checkpoint at the border of neighboring Nabas town.
The town mayor particularly noted that the 45 Chinese tourists showed authorities only photocopies of their passports and not their real passports.
“But this ban is not for Chinese only, but any nationality who recently traveled to China, Hong Kong, and Macau,” Bautista clarified.
Since February 7, there have been strict checkpoints at entry and exit points to the country’s most popular beach destination.
Bautista also noted that two other tourists from Tunisia were also barred entry Tuesday as their passports showed that they were recently in China.
There were also 17 other foreign tourists who were also barred from entering Boracay since February 7.
There are 64 remaining Chinese tourists in Boracay who are being monitored. Bautista reiterated they arrived before the February 2 travel ban.
