Starting Monday midnight, Barangay Mauway in Mandaluyong City will be on “total lockdown” amid the high number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases recorded in the area.
In an advisory, the local government announced that the village will be placed under total lockdown starting 12 a.m. of May 11 until 11:59 p.m. of May 13.
The lockdown was in pursuant to Executive Order No. 16 series of 2020 which sets a limit to the movement of people in the barangay amid the threat of the dreaded disease.
Virtually located in the middle of the city, Barangay Mauway has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Mandaluyong with 71 confirmed cases, 28 recoveries, and three deaths as of May 9, according to the data from the City Health Department.
During the lockdown, all residents of the barangay are prohibited from leaving their homes unless for emergency reasons. All establishments, including public markets and grocery stores, were ordered closed.
“The City Health Office will conduct rapid testing on select residents of the barangay,” the local government said, adding that food packs will be distributed to affected residents before the start of the lockdown.
Under the guidelines, unauthorized vehicles are prohibited to go in and out of the barangay during the lockdown period.
The city government said only essential workers, frontline personnel, and other authorized persons are allowed to be outside while the total lockdown is in effect.
Members of the Mandaluyong City Police and the Philippine Army will be deployed to ensure that the public are following the stringent quarantine measures.
Local authorities have also warned that those caught violating the lockdown protocols might be arrested, detained or fined.
The Mandaluyong City government has earlier imposed a week-long total lockdown in Welfareville Compound in Barangay Addition Hills starting May 7.
Barangay Addition Hills holds the second highest number of COVID-19 cases in Mandaluyong with 59 confirmed cases, six deaths, and 12 recoveries as of May 9.
