A total of 107 new recoveries were also reported, while eight patients died of the disease. These numbers brought the total number of recoveries to 4,637 and the death toll to 1,011.
Of the 579 new cases, 331 were fresh cases and 248 were late.
While all licensed laboratories handling COVID-19 samples have already submitted their respective line lists since the start of their operation, late cases continue to appear on the DOH's daily reports.
Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire explained that late cases may still be recorded if laboratories fail to submit their daily line list on time.
“We note that there may still be late cases recorded if laboratories do not submit their daily line list on time. To make sure that close to real time reporting is achieved, the department continues to provide laboratories with technical assistance in the roll out of COVID KAYA app in order to expedite the process of reporting from our laboratories,” Vergeire said.
“All laboratories have already been able to submit their complete line list since the start of operation although one has only submitted a partial line list,” the undersecretary added.
COVID-19 test results processed by a laboratory since it began operating can be seen in the line lists submitted by the licensed facilities. Backlogs are also recorded in the line list.
At present, according to DOH data, the country has a total of 16, 362 active COVID-19 cases, where 95.5 percent or 15,627 are mild cases. Four percent or a total of 660 are asymptomatic, 0.3 percent or 56 are severe cases, and 0.1 percent or 19 are critical cases.
