The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad has breached the 5,400 mark with the addition of 13 new confirmed cases and one death, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Monday (June 8).
No new recoveries were recorded in the latest tally released by the DFA.
Of the 5,405 total confirmed cases, 2,803 are still undergoing treatment, 2,231 have recovered, and 371 died of the disease.
The Middle East and African regions still have the biggest number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos with 3,368, followed by Europe with 852, the Americas with 662, and the Asia and the Pacific with 523.
“The DFA, through its Foreign Service Posts, continues to monitor the status of our nationals and stands ready to assist returning Filipinos affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” it said in the report.
Earlier on Monday, the Philippine Embassy in Madrid confirmed that 82 Filipinos have been afflicted with COVID-19 in Spain, including six deaths and 32 recoveries.
While the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain has seemed to slow down during the past week, Consul General Adrian Elmer Cruz still encouraged the Filipino community to report to the embassy any Filipino who will be found positive for the disease.
Spain has a total of 288,630 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 27,136 deaths, and more than 150,000 recoveries as of June 8.
