The homeless assist in repacking relief packages for Manila's urban poor
Manila's homeless, who have found shelter during the enhanced community quarantine, have recently banded together to assist in efforts to fight the COVID-19
pandemic.
Around 150 homeless volunteers repacked over 3,000 relief packages to be distributed to other urban poor communities all over Metro Manila. All packages were sanitized before being dispatched.
They are housed as temporary guests at the De La Salle University Enrique M. Razon Sports Center and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) covered court, as both institutions have opened their doors as sanctuaries for the duration of the quarantine.
This is part of the joint initiative between De La Salle Philippines and the Divine Word Missionaries.
The relief items and personal protective equipment utilized were provided by the Philippine Business for Social Progress.
Meanwhile, De La Salle Philippines President Br. Armin Luistro, FSC has likewise shared they will soon open all 16 La Salle campuses as temporary havens during the pandemic.
"We have expanded our support to at least five other private hospitals in the Cavite area and are in contact with the provincial health team to coordinate our efforts province-wide." his statement read.
“During these extraordinary times, let us get together in the ways that we can and reach out to the last, the least, and the lost,” stated DLS-CSB on their Facebook account.
Donations in cash or kind supporting this initiative will be highly appreciated.
Donations in kind may include pillows, industrial rice cookers, percolators for coffee, large garbage bags, medicines for first aid, small bath towels, clothes for men; women; and children, bath soap and shampoo, and alcohol.
