Stop pitting LGUs against each other — Palace

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles made the statement after President Duterte told LGUs to just follow the directives issued by the Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. "Let's not start this ball rolling of identifying LGUs. Alam ko (I know) where this is going. Let's not fall into that. Magtulungan po tayo. Nagtuturuan na, eh. (Let's just help each other. We're starting to point at each other) That's not healthy anymore," he said. "This is a general directive of the President and everybody just follows. So 'wag na yung mag-i-intriga pa ng ganito, ganyan (So let's not start intrigues about this or that)," he added. Interior Secretary Eduardo Año likewise refused to name the LGUs not following orders but said they have already communicated with them. Nograles renewed the IATF's appeal to LGUs to just follow the directives and cooperate with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). "So sa implementation, when the DILG says something or nakikiusap sa LGU, ano na, follow lang. Yun lang (When it comes to implementation, when the DILG says something or asks something from the LGUs, just follow. That's all)," he said. The Palace official likewise assured the LGUs that the national government will assist them when they run out of funds since local governments are the frontliners and in the country's fight against the disease. "Yung national government papasok (The national government will come in) to help and augment and help the LGU. Yung sistema in place na po 'yan. (There is already a system in place). That's why we need better coordination with the LGUs," Nograles said. Meanwhile, Nograles commended the LGUs for their efforts and sacrifices amid the enhanced community quarantine.
