(SMC) and Century Pacific Food Inc., two of the country’s largest food manufacturers, have issued separate statements assuring the public that there is enough food for everyone during the month-long Luzon lockdown. SMC stressed that on a daily basis its facilities can produce 1.96 million kilograms of fresh meats (poultry, beef and pork); 524,000 kgs. processed meats canned meat, nuggets and hotdogs); and 2.11 million kgs. flour and baked goods and baked goods (flour, biscuits, pandesal and Nutribun). “In these difficult times, we want to assure Filipinos that there is enough food for everyone,” SMC said in a statement. For its employees, SMC said that “We have taken steps to ensure our employees’ safety and well-being, as they take on the challenge.” “Many other companies also continue to produce food, that is why we are confident that together, we can overcome our present challenges.” For its part, Century Pacific Food, Inc., the country’s biggest canned food maker, assured the public that it has adequate supply of products to meet the heightened demands of consumers during this period of enhanced community quarantine. “We have enough raw materials and ingredients to sustain production. Our trade partners, distributors and retailers also have enough supply,” said the company. “Let us all do our share in beating COVID-19 by not resorting to panic buying.” CPFI President Ted Po said that DTI and the Inter Agency Task Force have already ensured smooth flow of goods. “Our factories are continually operating with enough capacity despite the use of a skeletal workforce. Thus, we currently have sufficient stock of products in our warehouses so there is no need to panic or worry that supply might run out,” said Po. “There is enough raw materials and ingredients to sustain production. Our trade partners, distributors and retailers also have enough supply,” said Po.
