SM has deployed safety officers to ensure that shoppers are practicing social distancing while inside malls.

In an interview over Dobol B sa News TV Monday Bien Mateo, SM SuperMalls vice president for operations, said in the vernacular: “In their excitement probably the people sometimes forget but we have already deployed additional safety officers to remind them to follow the rules.”
Mateo said that on Sunday some officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) visited some of their malls to ensure that social distancing is being practiced by shoppers.
On Saturday, May 16, droves of shoppers rushed to the malls all over Metro Manila, with many seen in photos shared on social media.
“Nung unang araw ng pagbubukas ng 74 malls namin nationwide, halos lahat naman ay naipatupad namin ang mga patakaran na ipinasa sa amin ng IATF (Interagency Task Force) at local government. Merong nakakalimot, sa sobrang excitement nila nakakalimot sila sa social distancing,” Mateo said.
(On the first day of opening of our 74 malls nationwide, we were able to abide by almost all of the rules required of us by the Interagency Task Force. There were those, because of their excitement forget the rules on social distancing)
Mateo, however, gave the assurance that the shoppers immediately complied once they were reminded of the rules.
He said that this will be the role of their safety officers, the remind the people of the existing rules.
