Sen. Bato welcomes Reds' ceasefire declaration

(Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa / Facebook page / MANILA BULLETIN) The CPP’s ceasefire declaration was in direct response to the United Nations' call for an immediate global ceasefire to help conflict-stricken countries respond to the coronavirus. The CPP has ordered its armed wing, the New Peoples’ Army (NPA), to observe the ceasefire. “With or without the UN’s request, they should just simply declare that this is a war against humanity and all human beings should be together in this fight in order to survive,” said Dela Rosa. “Ideologies, nationalities, races, religions, and other barriers should be set aside in this global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic,” the former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief said. Earlier, Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19, making him the second Filipino senator who contracted the disease after Sen. Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri. It was President Duterte who first asked the CPP-NPA for a ceasefire last March 16 when he announced that he was placing the entire Luzon island on lockdown to slow down the spread of the virus. “Together we will win this fight! Very welcome development and I thank them for that. I hope that after this pandemic, they will continue to side with humanity,” Dela Rosa said.
