Roque insists he did not violate health protocols

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said that he is ready to be sanctioned if he violated any health protocols but insisted that he did not break any.

Roque made the statement after Senator Panfilo Lacson said Roque and Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Debold Sinas should be sanctioned if an investigation will show that they violated health protocols.

In his Friday presser, Roque said he should not be punished because he did not breach any protocol.

"Kung may parusa po, sige po, pero wala po akong nilabag (If there should be a sanction then I will accept it but I did not break any protocol)," he said.

"Kung meron pong paglabag, dapat meron pong parusa. Pero kung wala pong paglabag, siyempre walang parusa (If there is a violation then there should be a punishment. But if there is no violation, then there should be no punishment)," he added.

Roque said that in his recent trips to different parts of the country for the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine rollout, he always made sure to have a negative swab test result and to undergo triage set by the local government unit (LGU).

Roque revealed on Monday that he tested positive for COVID-19.

Aside from Roque, Sinas, who also tested positive for COVID-19, has been criticized for allegedly breaching health protocols.

On Monday, Roque said Malacañang was leaving Sinas’ fate to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) after the local government of Oriental Mindoro said the country's top cop skipped health screening the same day he tested positive for the disease.

"I leave that to DILG, kasi sila ang merong supervision sa (because they're the ones with supervision over the) PNP," he said.

This was not the first time Sinas was under fire for breach of health protocols. He, together with other police officials, is facing criminal and administrative charges for breaking quarantine protocols when they held a mañanita for his birthday in May last year.
