Vice President Leni Robredo on Saturday expressed her gratitude to President Duterte after he sacked Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) Commissioner Manuelito Luna, who wanted her to be investigated for her relief work amid the COVID-19 crisis.

“Nagpapasalamat kami sa pahayag ng Pangulo na hindi kasalanan ang tumulong sa kapwa Pilipino ngayong panahon ng krisis,” Robredo’s spokesperson and legal adviser Barry Gutierrez said.
(We thank the President for his statement that it is not a sin to help fellow Filipinos in times of crisis.)
In his public address late Friday (April 3) night, Duterte said he fired Luna from his post, taking up the cudgels for Robredo, whom Luna wanted investigated by the National Bureau of Investigation for soliciting aid from the private sector.
“Now we have a lawyer, a PACC commissioner, Manuelito Luna. He wanted Leni to be investigated for soliciting. Son of a—So when I heard it, I said, ‘Fire him.’ As of this moment, he is no longer connected with government,” the President said.
Duterte then warned NBI officials they would suffer the same fate if they investigate Robredo.
Earlier, Luna claimed the NBI should probe Robredo for “competing” with government efforts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Robredo’s office has been actively implementing a donation drive to collect funds for purchasing personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers,
medical supplies for hospitals, and food and care packages for frontliners.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has also partnered with the private sector to provide free dormitories and shuttle services for COVID-19 frontliners.
“Tuloy pa rin po si VP Leni ngayong araw sa kanyang trabaho sa pangangasiwa ng mga proyekto natin bilang pagresponde sa COVID-19,” Gutierrez said.
(VP Leni continues to work today handling our projects in response to COVID-19.)
“Filled to capacity tayo ngayon, pero umaasa tayo na kung lalawak pa ang pagtulong ng pribadong sektor, madagdagan natin ang tulong na ating naibibigay.”
(We are now filled to capacity, but we hope that if there is more assistance from
the private sector, we can provide more aid.)
