Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday welcomed as a “good move” that President Duterte sacked Presidential-Anti Corruption Commission (PACC) Commissioner Manuelito Luna from his post.

“Sa amin, welcome move iyon kasi ang panahon ngayon extraordinary, hindi dapat tinotolerate kahit individual o public official na siya pa ‘yung nag-sosow ng division within government,” she said in an interview with news channel ANC.
(For us, it is a welcome move because in this extraordinary time, any individual or public official who sows division within government should not be tolerated.)
“Tingin namin na mabuti na parang sinaway ni Pangulo kasi iyon iyong mensahe na hindi natin itotolerate, ‘yung ganyan na pulitika ngayon, na dapat nagkakaisa tayo,” Robredo added.
(We think that it’s good the President stopped him because that’s the message should not be tolerated, that kind of politics instead of being united.)
Duterte fired Manuelito Luna late Friday (April 3) night, defending Robredo, whom the PACC official wanted investigated by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for her relief work supposedly “competing” with government efforts against COVID-19.
With a hair flip, Robredo earlier shrugged off Luna’s call to the NBI, with her camp calling it “so ridiculous, so inappropriate, so out of touch.”
The vice president said she was surprised Duterte came to her defense by removing Luna from the anti-corruption body.
“Nagulat in the sense na for a very long time hindi natin napapakinggan si Presidente pinagtatanggol tayo pero ngayon na pinagtanggol tayo, natuwa tayo. Natuwa dahil tingin ko kailangan sa panahon ngayon,” she said.
(I’m surprised in the sense for a very long time we have not heard the President defending me, but now after he defended me, I’m happy. I’m happy because I think we need it during this time.)
