Robredo: Sinas has 'no excuse' for breaching health protocols
Vice President Leni Robredo said public officials should lead as an example and not go around breaching health protocols because the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) excuses no one.

Robredo made the statement after Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Debold Sinas was called out by the local government of Oriental Mindoro for skipping health screening when he visited the regional headquarters on Thursday, the same day he revealed he tested positive for COVID-19.
In her radio program, Robredo said as a public official, Sinas should know that it was his responsibility to make sure that he was not a carrier of the disease.
"Dapat tayo yung example. Walang excuse dahil wala namang nae-excuse sa virus (We should become the example. There is no excuse because the virus excuses no one)," she said Sunday.
"Dapat kung ano yung policy on the ground sumunod tayo. Responsibility natin na hindi tayo carrier (We should follow whatever policy is on the ground. It is our responsibility to make sure that we are not carriers of the disease)," she added.
Robredo noted that Sinas underwent swab testing before he rode the helicopter to Oriental Mindoro. She, however, said he should have waited for his test result to come out.
"Sana hinintay yung results. Kung magte-test ka tapos hindi mo hinintay yung results, pumunta ka pa rin, para saan yung test (He should have waited for the results. If he had himself tested but did not wait for it and still proceeded with his plans, then what was the test for)?" she said.
The Vice President recognized the public outrage over Sinas's second breach of health protocols but said this should serve as a reminder to everyone.
"May outrage pero siguro gawing leksyon sa ating lahat. Gawing reminder sa ating lahat para maging responsible (There is an outrage but let this be a lesson for everyone. Let this serve as a reminder for us to be responsible)," she said.
This was not the first time Sinas was under fire for breach of health protocols. He, together with other police officials, is facing criminal and administrative charges for breaking quarantine protocols when they held a mañanita for his birthday in May last year.
