Robredo, OVP partner fund drive for health workers reach P36.3 million

Vice President Leni Robredo said on Saturday her office and its private partner raised P36.3 million from various donors to buy protective gear for health workers on the frontlines of combating the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

(OVP / MANILA BULLETIN) The funds are enough for the purchase of 81,218 personal protective equipment (PPE) sets for 5,414 frontliners and 10,457 care packages, she said in a Facebook post. Robredo’s office and Kaya Natin! Movement launched the fund drive for health workers two days before the 30-day, Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine took effect on March 16. “After the deliveries today, we would have already given a total of 30,450 PPE sets for 2,030 frontliners covering 93 hospitals and communities,” she noted. The vice president lamented they have been facing difficulties in the procurement of PPE sets due to the growing demand for the products amid the COVID-19 pandemic. “We could have covered more but we are struggling with supplies, which are very hard to come by,” the opposition leader said. Robredo added her office has been receiving several requests for the provision of the protective gear. “There is still a long list of hospitals waiting to be served. We have been receiving requests from Batanes to Tawi-Tawi, literally,” Robredo said. The country’s second top official apologized to health workers following the delay in the distribution of the next batch of PPEs to hospitals. “We are still waiting for our protective gowns to arrive before we send the packages to you. We are already in the process of producing our gowns and suits locally,” she said. Robredo thanked again the private donors for helping the COVID-19 frontliners. “Maraming, maraming salamat sa mga nag-donate (Thank you very much to those who donated). It is indeed true: We respond to the worst of times with the best in ourselves).” Apart from the PPEs, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) has also provided free shuttle service and dormitory in Cubao, Quezon City for health workers and frontliners in various parts of Metro Manila.
