DAVAO CITY – One of the 270 passengers on-board the 400-seater sweeper flight of Cebu Pacific Air that arrived in Davao City from Manila on Wednesday had tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the city government of Davao confirmed on Saturday.
In a statement released by the Davao City Information Office, the local government said the passenger had failed the initial health screening conducted with the “rapid diagnostic test,” as part of the health screening procedure to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 infection.
After failing the health screening, the passenger was transported to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) where he was subjected to a swabbing test using the real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) machine.
Result of the swabbing test confirmed the passenger was infected with COVID-19, it said.
It said the City Health Office would subject “all those who were seated in the plane near this individual” for further screening and reminded other passengers of the May 6 flight from Manila to go to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for assessment “if they develop symptoms within 14 days.”
The local government reminded family members of the passengers to avoid “direct physical contact.”
“Other people can distinguish these new arrival individuals with the indelible ink on their left index finger. If you see anyone with this mark, please do not go near them for the next 14-21 days,” it added.
It said the city government would raise “the matter of this incident to the RTF and request the national government to prohibit boarding of individuals in Manila going to all the local destinations without a confirmed RT-PCR negative result.”
