The office of the House Speaker has transmitted to the Committee on Ethics the formal request of Pamplona town Mayor Janice Degamo to expel Negros Oriental 3rd district Rep. Arnolfo "Arnie" Teves Jr.
This was confirmed by House reporters on Monday, March 27, through a document from the Office of the Secretary General, Reginald Velasco, who made the transmission in behalf of the Speaker.

The one-page document was marked received by the ethics panel on March 22. COOP-NATCCO Party-list Rep. Felimon Espares chairs the panel. The Committee on Rules chaired by Majority Leader and Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Mannix Dalipe. The transmittal is seen as a procedural matter,, since Velasco had already said that Mayor Demago's letter would ultimately be referred to the ethics committee--the same panel that recommended the 60-day suspension against Teves for "disorderly behavior". The House unanimously upheld the recommendation to suspend Teves also on March 22, during plenary session.
Mayor Degamo is the wife of the slain Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo. Teves, who is abroad and refuses to come back home to the Philippines for safety reasons, in being implicated in the governor's assassination in Pamplona town last March 4. Velasco has said that the Espares-led panel already has jurisdiction on disciplinary action against Teves, who was slapped with the two-month suspension because of the Visayas solon's continued absence in the House. The secretary general has also said that the ethics panel can recommend additional sanctions against Teves.
Mayor Degamo is asking for the harshest sanction of expulsion against Teves for his alleged hand in the killing.
