Record-high 761 new COVID-19 cases reported -- DFA

Overseas Filipinos recorded 761 new COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases on Monday, the highest for this year according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

In its latest tally, the DFA also received reports of 10 new recoveries, and 2 new fatalities among Filipinos abroad. “The reported spike is a record-high for the year and is due to the increase in cases in a country in the Middle East,” the DFA said in a statement.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections involving overseas Filipinos since the outbreak began in February 2020 to 15,850.

Of that total, 5,274 are considered 'live' cases, 9,536 have recovered and 1,040 died due to infections.

To date, the total number of countries and territories with confirmed cases among Filipinos abroad remains at 87.

Together with its foreign service posts worldwide, the DFA said assured that they continue to partner with host governments to ensure the safety and well-being of Filipino nationals abroad in the middle of the pandemic.
