Quezon City's running total of COVID-19 cases rises to 1,974

By Chito Chavez The Department of Health (DOH) reported ten new confirmed novel coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) cases in Quezon City bringing the total to 1,974 as of 7 p.m. of May 21. Similar to previous records, the number of validated cases by the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (QCESU) and District Health Offices differed from the findings of the DOH as it stood at 1,565 up by 21 from 1,544 during the same period. The Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) noted that the number of confirmed cases with complete addresses in Quezon City is up by 62 from the previous 1,727 to 1,789. In the same QCHD data, the active COVID-19 cases in Quezon City referring to those still alive was up by two from 783 to 785. Recoveries and deaths Quezon City had 18 new recoveries bringing the total to 614 while the death toll was up by one from 165 to 166 as of May 21. HOPE 1 Facility As of May 21, the HOPE 1 has 28 confirmed and 11 suspected COVID-19 patients while two rooms are available for other similar cases. HOPE 2 Facility At present, 170 rooms are occupied by confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients while 124 beds remain available. Those who have been tested in QC’s community-based testing are brought in HOPE 2 for self-isolation while waiting for their results. HOPE 3 Facility This facility was recently opened to accommodate confirmed and suspected COVID-19 nursing mothers and their babies. It is equipped with 84 beds, cribs, bassinets and other baby essentials. As of May 21, 35 confirmed patients are confined in HOPE 3. Special Concern Lockdown (SCL) areas The Quezon City government has placed certain areas in Barangays Bahay Toro, Culiat, Sauyo, Batasan Hills and Tatalon under 14-day special concern lockdown since May 13 due to the high number and clustering of COVID-19 cases. Initial areas under special concern lockdown include: Sitio Militar in Barangay Bahay Toro; Vargas Compound-Adelfa Metro Heights-Abanay and Ancop Canada in Barangay Culiat; Lower Gulod in Barangay Sauyo; 318 Dakila St., 2nd Alley Kalayaan B and Masbate St. in Barangay Batasan Hills and Victory Avenue, ROTC Hunters, BMA Avenue and Agno St. in Barangay Tatalon. Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine Belmonte has issued guidelines with the city shifting to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) on May 16. Even with the relaxed quarantine protocols, Belmonte urged the public to still strictly stay home as much as possible, wear proper face masks and observe social distancing when in public places and follow hygienic practices. Social Amelioration Program The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) assisted by the city government has started distributing the financial support under the social amelioration program (SAP) to the qualified beneficiaries. Kalingang Quezon City (QC) As of May 21, a total of 51,598 have benefitted from the Kalingang QC financial aid program. The recipients include hawkers, vendors, lactating mothers, persons with disability (PWDs), senior citizens, solo parents and tricycle, jeep, pedicab, UV, taxi and TNVS drivers.
