Records from the Department of Health (DOH) revealed that the number of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Quezon City (QC) has catapulted to 500 from the previous 476 as of 7:00 p.m. of April 4.
The same DOH data disclosed that the total number of cases with complete addresses in Quezon City has now reached 458, up by 134 from the previous 324, while the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (QCESU) has validated 336 cases, which is a jump of 148 from the previous 188.
The Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) attributed the sudden rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the locality to the database access provided by the DOH to local health officials.
As the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases has led to concern in the locality, the QCHD clarified that the raw data from the DOH is “still subject to the validation’’ of the QCESU, health center officers, and barangay officials.
The QCHD explained that the validation is done to ensure that the patients are actual Quezon City residents, with corrections being made if needed as the city carefully verifies each case.

COVID-19 deaths and recoveries
As of 7:00 p.m. of April 4, the QCHD has reported no new deaths and recoveries, with both totals remaining at 34 and 14 respectively.
Extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ)
The Quezon City government, as explained by Mayor Joy Belmonte, will enforce the EECQ in barangays with two or more confirmed COVID-19 cases and in different streets and/or in congested urban poor areas where fast transmission is most likely.
However, this is subject to the daily review depending on the number of cases / recoveries. The newly reported barangays with two cases have not yet been included in the list as they are still undergoing validation.
As of 7:00 p.m. of April 4, the Quezon City government has implemented EECQ in the following barangays:
Tandang Sora, Kalusugan, Ramon Magsaysay, Maharlika, Tatalon, Batasan Hills, Pasong Tamo, Central, San Roque, Paligsahan, Bagong Lipunan ng Crame, South Triangle, Culiat, Bahay Toro, E. Rodriguez, San Isidro Labrador, Matandang Balara, and Teachers Village West.
Decontamination efforts
The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Quezon City Fire Department have continuously disinfected the city’s streets and highways.
As of April 4, 523 locations in the city’s 142 barangays were disinfected as part
of the continuous simultaneous decontamination operations.
Kalingang Kyusi
Belmonte said the city government has launched Kalingang Kyusi which is a program that provides financial assistance of P2,000 to drivers of public utility jeepney (PUJs), tricycle, pedicabs, market vendors, solo parents, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) whose livelihoods are affected by the enhanced community quarantine.
In this health crisis, Belmonte has vowed to impose the stiffest possible sanctions against rogue barangay captains and other city officials who fail to judiciously distribute food packs to the residents who are severely suffering from this medical catastrophe.
