QC records 8 times more new COVID-19 recoveries vs. new deaths

By Chito Chavez With 110 new COVID-19-related recoveries in Quezon City as of 7 p.m. of May 18, the number of recoveries has risen to 576, while 14 additional deaths were recorded, bringing the death toll to 161, the Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) said. In the same period, the Department of Health (DOH) reported that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Quezon City has reached 1,832. Like in the previous tallies, the DOH record differed from the COVID-19 validated cases by the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (QCESU) and the District Health Offices, which stood at 1,484. The QCHD report revealed that 1,663 confirmed cases with complete addresses were tallied in the city, while the number of active COVID-19 cases, pertaining to those who have not fully recovered, have reached 747. Extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ) EECQ is enforced in barangays with at least two confirmed COVID-19 cases and in various streets and/or in congested urban poor areas where fast transmission is most likely to occur. Mayor Joy Belmonte explained this will still be subjected to daily review depending on the number of cases/recoveries. She added the newly reported barangays with two cases have not yet been included in the list as they are still subjected to validation. As of 7 p.m. of May 18, the city government has imposed EECQ in the following barangays: Tandang Sora, Kalusugan, Ramon Magsaysay, Maharlika, Tatalon, Batasan Hills, Pasong Tamo, Central, San Roque, Paligsahan, Bagong Lipunan ng Crame, South Triangle, Culiat, Bahay Toro, E. Rodriguez, San Isidro Labrador, Matandang Balara, Teachers Village West, Manresa, Paltok, Sto. Domingo, Bagong Silangan, Holy Spirit, Payatas, Marilag, Socorro, Kamuning, Pinyahan, San Isidro Galas, Commonwealth, Pansol, North Fairview, Novaliches Proper, and New Era. Hope 1 facility As of May 17, Hope 1 has 29 confirmed and six suspected COVID-19 patients with six rooms still available. Hope 2 facility Currently, 167 rooms/beds in Hope 2 are occupied by confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients, while 127 beds remain unoccupied. Those who have been tested in the city’s community-based testing centers are brought to this facility for self-isolation while waiting for their results. Hope 3 facility Hope 3 was recently opened to accommodate confirmed and suspected COVID-19 nursing mothers and their babies. The facility is equipped with 84 beds, cribs, bassinets, and other baby essentials. As of May 18, 27 confirmed patients are confined in the facility. Community-based testing On May 18, a total of 412 tests were conducted in testing centers in all three local government hospitals, and by the QCESU. Of the 412 tests, 99 were done in Novaliches District Hospital, 23 in Rosario Maclang-Bautista General Hospital, 49 at SB Park Novaliches, 76 at Asian Institute of Tourism, and 165 by the QCESU. Special concern lockdown (SCL) areas The Quezon City government has placed certain areas in Barangays Bahay Toro, Culiat, Sauyo, Batasan Hills and Tatalon under the 14-day special concern lockdown since May 13 due to the high number of COVID-19 cases. Initial areas under SCL include: Sitio Militar in Barangay Bahay Toro, Vargas Compound-Adelfa Metro Heights-Abanay and Ancop Canada in Barangay Culiat, Lower Gulod in Barangay Sauyo, 318 Dakila St., 2nd Alley Kalayaan B and Masbate St. in Barangay Batasan Hills, Victory Avenue, ROTC Hunters, BMA Avenue, and Agno St. in Barangay Tatalon. Modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) Belmonte issued guidelines for the city’s transition to MECQ last May 16. The public is still strictly advised to stay at home, and to wear proper face masks and observe social distancing in public. Social Amelioration Program (SAP) The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), assisted by the city government, is distributing financial support under SAP to its qualified beneficiaries. As controversies about alleged SAP-related cash aid anomalies continue to rise, Belmonte urged the residents to contact the city government through email [email protected]. to relay their concerns about the distribution of the subsidies.
