QC COVID-19 cases now at 151; 27 deaths;, 11 recoveries

By Chito Chavez The death toll from COVID-19 in Quezon City has risen to 27 from the previous 26 fatalities, while the number of confirmed cases has ballooned to 151 while a total of 11 patients have recovered as of 7 p.m. of March 31. In its March 30 report, the Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) noted there were 140 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city. The QCHD reported that the 11 additional COVID-19 cases are from the following barangays: District 1: Bahay Toro, 1; Lourdes, 1; Sto. Cristo, 1. District 2: Batasan Hills, 2; Holy Spirit, 1. District 3: Loyola Heights, 1; San Roque, 1. District 5: San Agustin, 1 District 6: Pasong Tamo, 1; Tandang Sora, 1. The same report disclosed that the barangays with at least one COVID-19 case are the following: District 1 - 33 patients: Bagong Pag-asa, 1; Bahay Toro, 5; Bungad, 2; Del Monte, 1; Lourdes, 2; Maharlika, 2; Manresa, 1; Mariblo, 1; Masambong, 1; Phil-am, 1; Project 6, 1; Ramon Magsaysay, 1; San Antonio, 1; San Isidro Labrador, 4; San Jose, 1; Siena, 2; Sto. Cristo, 4; Sto. Domingo, 1; West Triangle, 1. District 2 - 12 patients: Bagong Silangan, 3; Batasan Hills, 8; Holy Spirit, 1. District 3 - 26 patients: E. Extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ) Mayor Joy Belmonte explained that the EECQ is implemented in barangays with two or more confirmed cases and/or in congested urban poor areas where fast transmission of the disease is highly probable. This is reviewed daily depending on the number of cases/recoveries. However, the newly reported barangays with at least two COVID-19 cases are not yet included in the list since validation is still being undertaken. As of March 31, 7 p.m., the Quezon City government is implementing EECQ in the following barangays: Tandang Sora, Kalusugan, Ramon Magsaysay, Maharlika, Tatalon, Batasan Hills, Pasong Tamo, Central, San Roque, Paligsahan, Bagong Lipunan ng Crame, South Triangle, Culiat, Bahay Toro, E. Rodriguez, San Isidro Labrador, Matandang Balara, and Teachers Village West. Belmonte explained that Barangay Central does not have COVID-19 patients but was included in the EECQ due to the presence of numerous hospitals along East Avenue. Decontamination efforts The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Quezon City Fire Department have continuously disinfected the city’s streets and highways. As of March 31, 138 barangays were disinfected as part of the continuous simultaneous decontamination operations. Food packs distribution As of 7 p.m. of March 31, the Quezon City government has distributed more than 952,000 food packs. Mobile fresh market The Quezon City Small Business and Cooperatives Development and Promotions Office launched its own mobile fresh market on March 31 in Barangay Mariana and Barangay Greater Lagro. Hope II officially opens Belmonte said the city’s Hope 2 Community Care Center, a temporary quarantine facility, officially opened on March 31 and accepts persons under investigation (PUI) for COVID-19.
