"We have to come up with immediate (and) effective measures so we can deliver services to our constituents,” he said in a statement Tuesday.
Earlier, the House leader instructed Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Davao to donate abandoned shipments of various medical equipment to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).
"These are abandoned shipments and it normally takes a long time to have these cleared for release. Fortunately, BOC-Davao responded to my call by having these donated to SPMC," he said.
Duterte said the medical equipment will boost the hospital's patient-care capacity and ensure proper care of all patients..
SPMC is the largest government hospital in Mindanao and is considered the central care unit of Davao Region.
"We are doing a holistic approach and we need to make sure that our resources are efficiently distributed," stressed Duterte, who served as Davao City vice mayor before his election to the House of Representatives in the 2019 midterm polls.
Among the donated equipment were gurneys, wheelchairs, bed-side and operating tables, dialysis chairs, medical trolleys and crutches, pharmaceutical refrigerators, and sterilizers.
Dr. Leopoldo Vega, SPMC Medical Chief, received the donations on March 30. He expressed his gratitude to Customs officials, saying the equipment would be a huge help to their patients and front line workers.
