BUTUAN CITY – The belated arrival of test results showed that a person under investigation (PUI), who died in Caraga region, was negative for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the regional office of the Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) here reported Thursday.
The negative result was released by the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao City.
The patient’s demise was primarily correlated to a pre-existing medical condition which was Chronic Kidney Disease, although the deceased had travel history outside the region.
“Again, we extend our sympathy to the bereaved family for their loss,” DOH 13 Regional Director Dr. Jose R. Llacuna, Jr. said.
“However, we are also relieved with the latest test result,” stressed the region’s DOH 13 chief.
As of April 1, 2020 there are two PUIs admitted in one of the DOH hospitals in Northeastern Mindanao or Caraga region. The regional office of the DOH 13-CHD is still waiting for their lab results.
Of the 7,713 number of persons under monitoring (PUMs), 7,023 have already been cleared, with 690 still under monitoring.
“I cannot overemphasize the determination of our local chief executives and all the stakeholders who took part in this journey against COVID-19,” Llacuna said.
“We still have a long way to go but I am faithful that we can surpass this because we are united. Buckle up Caraga, we will win this fight,” the region’s health chief further stressed.
He also urged Caraga Region residents to apprise themselves with the coordinated policies issued by the Regional Task Force for COVID-19.
The policies and guidelines, Llacuna added, will help shield the Caraga region from the spread of the deadly disease.
Meanwhile, in relation to the various issuances by the local government units (LGUs) in the region, the Regional Task Force for COVID-19 released Resolution No. 7 Series of 2020 or the “One Caraga Shield”, where the resolution aims to harmonize the guidelines for the regional community quarantine in response to the viral threat.
With this strengthened and unified approach, Caraganons are being guided to the coordinated policies. Leaders of Caraga region have closed ranks in the fight against the COVID-19, declaring the region off limits to outsiders even from among its residents who want to get in.
In a major decision on Wednesday, local government leaders in the region agreed to the “shield Caraga effort” against COVID-19, and strengthen its 14 checkpoints in the regional boarders effective immediately.
Agusan del Norte Governor Dale Corvera, chair of the Caraga Region COVID-19 Task Force, said sealing off the region will further ramp up a unified region-wide effort against the spread of the deadly virus.
“Our region has no recorded case of COVID-19. We want to maintain that integrity,” stressed the provincial chief executive of Agusan del Norte province.
Corvera said the border closure would be enforced through suspension of all land, sea and air travel into the region.
The region shares borders with the Region 11 (Davao region) and Region 10 (Northern Mindanao).
The entry points into the region are Carmen, Agusan del Norte, from Misamis Oriental; Lingig, Surigao del Sur, from Davao Oriental; Veruela, Agusan del Sur, from Davao del Norte; and Trento, from Davao del Oro province.
Corvera appealed to the public to cooperate with the authorities and follow measures put in place to help combat COVID-19 in Caraga region.
The COVID-19 Caraga tracker indicated that as of April 1, the region remained free from the dreaded virus.
