PALO, Leyte – This province has converted the Leyte Academic Center (LAC) gymnasium into an isolation area for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) probable and suspect patients, a report from the office of the governor said Monday.
Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla told The Manila Bulletin that the gymnasium will be able to accommodate 100 cubicles designed for COVID-19 probable and suspect patients.
“The size of each room which will accommodate one person each is 8x8 feet equipped with medical beds and other necessary paraphernalia,” Petilla said.
Petilla disclosed that the gymnasium has comfort rooms both for male and female with good water supply.
He added that the whole gymnasium was air conditioned.
Petilla reported that a large tent, which is nearly the same size of the gymnasium, has been installed near the LAC which could be used by family members of the patients.
Petilla explained that his office converted the gymnasium in preparation for any increase in the number of COVID-19 probable and suspects in the province.
According to the Department of Health Region 8, based in this town, the province has zero COVID-19 probable, 45 suspects and two confirmed cases. Twenty-six of the suspects are in home isolation while 19 are in several hospitals in the province.
On the other hand, the two confirmed COVID-19 patients were from the town of Burauen, with one confined at the Burauen District Hospital and the other at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center in Tacloban City.
