PRO7 appeals for Cebuanos' patience as city remains under MECQ until June 15

By Calvin Cordova CEBU CITY—Cebuanos were advised to stretch their patience as the city will still be under a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until June 15. Police Brig. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro, chief of the Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO 7), appealed to the public to understand the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases placing the city under MECQ until next month. “Please be patient because we don’t want to have a second outbreak or a second wave," said Ferro. Ferro said the public should understand that transitioning to a more relaxed quarantine protocol should be done gradually. “In critical areas, the transition should be gradual. From enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), to MECQ, then to GCQ. We have to follow the national strategy on how to control the spread of the disease so that we will not be like the other countries which suffered high mortality rates,” he said. Ferro said there will still be strict quarantine protocols under MECQ as public transportation will remain suspended and only selected establishments will be allowed to operate. Some gatherings will be allowed but with limited attendance. “Let us be patient. I think by June, they might be able to formulate a win-win solution. Let us not waste the gains that we have done for the past several months of being under ECQ because if we make hasty decisions, we may face bigger problems,” said Ferro. As of May 27, the city has 2,013 confirmed cases with 394 recoveries and 25 deaths.
