ZAMBOANGA CITY - A 30-year old female was the third coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patient reported in this city, and is now confined at the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC), according to the Center for COVID-19 in this city.
Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco disclosed that the third COVID-19 patient was also pregnant when she was tested, and was from Barangay Tetuan, which is located about two kilometers from the center of the city.
Climaco said the city received the confirmation early Wednesday afternoon from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
According to Climaco, before they got the confirmatory result from RITM, the patient already gave birth Saturday, March 28, via ceasarian section at the same hospital.
Climaco also said the patient was an employee of a private firm here, and did not have any travel history outside this city.
The lady mayor reported that, as of April 3, the city had about 60 persons under investigation (PUIs), 17 of whom are now at an isolation facility, and 11 confined at hospital.
There were also 2,380 persons under monitoring (PUMs), with 2,102 cleared by health authorities after completing the 14-day mandatory quarantine period.
With the confirmation of the city’s first three COVID-19 cases, Climaco has also requested the DOG for more testing kits, or to put up a testing center in the city.
