POGOs urged to practice preventive measures vs. nCoV

By Jel Santos The local government of Pasay City has urged Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) to exercise preventive measures to reduce the risk of spreading the 2019 novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease (2019-nCoV ARD). In a memorandum issued by Mayor Imelda “Emi” Calixto-Rubiano, she assured the POGOs that there are available clinics to monitor their personnel coming from nCoV-hit countries. Should any employee is suspected to have the virus, she said POGOs must refer him to a DOH-designated coronavirus center or hospital. Calixto-Rubiano also urged the POGOs to use forehead thermometers to detect fever and to place hand sanitizers in strategic locations to avoid spreading the virus. Rubiano emphasized the importance of cleanliness in their workplaces to ensure that bacteria will not thrive. “Encourage your personnel to wear face masks , especially those who are in contact with a lot of clients throughout the day and impose a 10-day quarantine on workers coming from countries hit by the nCoV,” the mayor said. She also encouraged POGOs to keep their employees well-informed on the safety measures about the virus. As of February 5, the Health Department said there are now three confirmed cases of nCoV in the country, all of them Chinese nationals.
