PNP seeks DOH okay for COVID-19 test center in Central Visayas

All the travels coming from and going to the two cities by Locally Stranded Individuals were temporarily banned to give way for the local officials to contain the spread of the virus. Gamboa said the building of a Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) testing center in Central Visayas is needed since the upsurge in COVID-19 cases has been affecting the local policemen and their dependents. “Capacity-building measures such as having our own testing laboratories will ensure that our police front liners are tested and that we get the results fast,” said Gamboa. He said they are seeking the approval of the Department of Health on a suitable site for the proposed testing laboratory. Currently, the PNP has 483 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection. Of these 483 confirmed PNP COVID cases, 225 were recorded in Metro Manila while 112 are in Central Visayas. “It is in protecting our own PNP personnel that we are able to protect the Filipino people better,” said Gamboa. Once an RT-PCR testing facility was set up in Central Visayas, it would be the second testing center that would be operated by the PNP. The first is currently based at Camp Crame in Quezon City. The testing center is exclusive for policemen and their dependents and civilian employees of the PNP. Gamboa earlier said that they are planning to construct a testing center in Cebu City and Davao City.
