The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded a 50 percent recovery rate among its personnel infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Philippine National Police (MANILA BULLETIN)
Brig. Gen. Herminio Tadeo Jr., chief of the PNP Health Service, said a total of 176 personnel have already recovered from COVID-19 out of the 346 cases.
The latest figure includes 20 more new cases. Most of those infected are assigned to frontline duties such as manning the Quarantine Control Points (QCPs).
PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa said the high recovery rate could be attributed to the quick action that includes mass testing which was boosted by the setting up of the PNP's own testing center at Camp Crame.
“We attribute this high recovery rate to our intensified mass testing among our police personnel including extensive contact tracing and treatment of confirmed cases as well as isolation of suspected cases,” said Gamboa.
Aside from police personnel, Gamboa said the testing center is also allowing the immediate family of the policemen, especially those who tested positive.
The PNP leadership had earlier said that it is planning to set up two more testing centers in Cebu City and Davao City.
Of the remaining active cases, Tadeo said 148 patients are in quarantine facilities, two are admitted in hospitals, and 16 are undergoing home quarantine.
“We also have 675 police personnel who were listed as Probable Persons Under Investigation (Probable PUIs) and 717 police personnel considered as Suspected Persons Under Investigation (Suspected PUIs),” said Tadeo.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,144 personnel which includes 1,260 Probable PUIs and 884 Suspected PUIs have completed self/home quarantine under strict medical monitoring.
