The Philippine National Police (PNP) bared on Friday that it is monitoring 76 personnel who are considered as persons under investigation (PUIs) and 905 others who are persons under monitoring (PUMs) on account of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Philippine National Police spokesperson Brig. General Bernard Banac
(PCOO / MANILA BULLETIN) Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said the data covers the whole police organization as of Thursday, March 26. According to the Department of Health (DOH), a PUI has signs and symptoms of the disease such as fever, cough and other respiratory symptoms; a history of exposure to COVID-19; or travel history to areas with issued travel restrictions in the past 14 days especially where there are confirmed cases. Meanwhile, a PUM has no signs or symptoms but has a travel history in the past 14 days to areas with issued travel restrictions especially where there are confirmed cases; or a history of exposure to COVID-19. A PUI warrants hospital admission while a PUM requires self-quarantine and monitoring for 14 days. Banac stated that PNP doctors were also closely monitoring two police personnel in active duty who recently tested positive for COVID-19. To prevent the further spread of the virus, a walk-through decontamination station was put-up in Camp Crame, Quezon City to disinfect all persons entering the police national headquarters. "This makeshift decontamination procedure is part of the PNP-wide biosafety plan recommended by the PNP Health Service that is now being observed in Camp Crame and all PNP camps," Banac said. He said all vehicles entering Camp Crame will have to pass through a tire bath and its occupants are required to alight and walk through a disinfectant misting tent before undergoing a body temperature scan. "Also part of the Biosafety Plan is the proper disposal of bio-hazardous waste materials such as discarded PPE , face mask, and gloves," Banac noted. In other developments, Banac denied earlier reports that two recently deceased PNP personnel supposedly died due to COVID-19 infection. "Both Police Staff Sergeant Roderick Taca of CIDG and PSSgt. Feliciana Malana of HPG tested negative for COVID-19 infection and their deaths were caused by other medical conditions," Banac said.
