(KJ Rosales / MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) "I think Bong Go is sincere in trying to solve this problem," administration ally Pichay said in an interview, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic. For one thing, Pichay said that Go has risked his life distributing aid to Filipinos while exposing himself to the deadly virus. "Do you think he would still be out to grab credit during these times of danger? I don't think so," said the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) stalwart. Pichay came out to defend the Senate Committee on Health chairman and presidential right-hand man after some online posts insinuated that he had been using donations during the COVID-19 crisis for personal gain. Allegations include the "promotion" of the Go's name in donations for a certain hospital as well as the use of his Malasakit Center pet project for medical donations. "I don't believe Bong Go will go to that extent, na makikialam pa sa mga donation (to get involved with donations like that)," the Deputy Speaker said. Pichay went as far as to say that Go "has the same heart as President Duterte's, which is the heart to help the people and not credit-grab." Reports said that it was on Go's suggestion that the Chief Executive declare a state of a public health emergency in the country early last month when local COVID-19 cases began to rise. Lakas-CMD is a coalition partner of ruling party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban). President Duterte sits as chairman of PDP-Laban.
