PH's youngest COVID-19 positive patient to be discharged from hospital Friday

By Jerry Alcayde CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The one-year and nine-month-old girl, the lone coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) case in the province, and the youngest in the country, is reportedly scheduled to be discharged from the hospital Thursday or early Friday. This was what her physician told Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito A. Dolor, who said that Patient 14, or now more popularly known as “Baby COVID-19” here, has been taken off her dependence for intravenous fluids and has been given oral medication. “The child is playful, has good appetite, and, for almost a week, had had no fever,” Dolor quoted the physician as saying. Dolor said the pneumonia and other respiratory ailments of the patient have been treated completely while the lab test for her COVID-19 was still being processed at Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Manila. “We fervently hope that the re-test will be negative,” said Dolor in his regular health bulletin posted in his social media account. Despite the good news about “Baby COVID-19”, Dolor still urged his constituents to stay indoors, and follow all government quarantine regulations to prevent the spread of the dreaded disease. The child is confined at a private hospital in Calapan City with her grandparents assisting her since her mother has been stranded in Muntinlupa due to the enhanced community quarantine. The Center for Health Development of DOH Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) said Patient 14 was considered the youngest recorded COVID-19 patient in the whole country with travel history in Muntinlupa before the Luzon-wide lockdown was imposed on March 16. CHD reported that for the Mimaropa region there were eight COVID-19 positive cases, but emphasized that it has not found any case of local or community transmission in the provinces under its jurisdiction. Marinduque has three COVID-19 confirmed cases, Occidental Mindoro has two cases, with the rest of the provinces having one case each. Occidental Mindoro has th emost number of patients under investigations (PUIs) at 150, who were admitted and home quarantined; followed by Romblon with 100, Palawan, 76; Marinduque, 58; and Oriental Mindoro, 42.
