PH sets new record-high 289 COVID-19 recoveries

By Analou De Vera The Philippines set another record-high in the number of recoveries from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) recorded in a single day. It surpassed the 270 recoveries reported on June 11. Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, in a press briefing, attributed the spike in recoveries to the country’s increasing healthcare system and testing capacities. The country now has 10,000 actual daily testing capacity with 56 license laboratories nationwide that can conduct testing for COVID-19. A total of 425,734 unique individuals have already been tested as of June 9. The DOH also announced that 615 more people were confirmed to have been afflicted with COVID-19. The new infections brought the country’s total number of confirmed cases to 24,787 as of 4 p.m. on June 12. Out of the new reported cases, 336 were patients who tested positive within the last three days or were referred to as “fresh” cases. Meanwhile, there were 279 “late” cases or those who tested positive more than four days ago but were only validated recently. The death toll jumped to 1,052 as 16 more patients succumbed to the dreaded illness. Clarification on Thursday’s figure Meanwhile, the DOH clarified that there were only 24,172 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of June 11, Thursday, instead of 24,175. “Three duplicate cases were removed from the total cases reported as of 11 June 2020. Total cases reported may be subject to change as these numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation,” the DOH explained. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that there are already 7,273,958 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the globe, including 413,372 deaths as of June 11.
