PH records over 17K new COVID-19 cases

The country recorded more than 17,000 fresh coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Friday, Sept. 10.

The Department of Health (DOH) said that 17,964 more people were confirmed to have contracted the viral disease. This figure brought the country's total case tally to 2,179,770.

It said that "88 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 74 are recoveries and two are deaths."

Eight percent of the total case count were tagged as active infections. Of the active cases, 87.8 percent are mild, 7.8 percent are asymptomatic, 0.6 percent are in critical condition, 1.3 percent are severe, and 2.48 percent have moderate symptoms.

Also, 168 more fatalities were logged, putting the death toll to 34,899---representing 1.60 percent of the country's total case count.

The DOH noted that "79 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation."

There were also 9,067 new recoveries, raising the survivors' count to 1,969,401 or 90.3 percent of the overall case tally.
