The Philippines recorded 270 recoveries on Thursday, the highest in a single day, the Department of Health (DOH) reported.
Health Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire (PNA)
The new recoveries brought the country’s tally on recoveries to 5,165, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a press briefing.
The previous record was 159 recovered patients, which was reported last June 10.
Vergeire attributed the rising number of recoveries to the country’s improving healthcare capacity.
Vergeire also noted the country’s increasing testing capacity.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases in the country rose to 24,175, after 443 new infections were announced.
Of the new cases, 253 were classified as "fresh cases," while the other 190 were referred to as "late cases."
The DOH previously explained that fresh cases are test results that came out and were validated by its epidemiology bureau in the last three days. Late cases, on the other hand, are test results that were released four days ago or more but were just recently validated.
Moreover, nine more patients succumbed to COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 1,036.
