PH Navy accepts PPE, food pack donations for health workers, troops

By Martin Sadongdong  The Philippine Navy (PN) has facilitated the management of thousands of personal protective equipment (PPE) and food packs donated by the Makati Medical Center (MMC) Foundation for health workers and security troops who continue to risk their lives to contain the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the military announced on Wednesday.
Lt. Commander Maria Christina Roxas, acting director of the naval public affairs office, said the donations include 1,750 surgical masks, 700 dust masks, goggles, and 600 grocery packs each containing rice, coffee, canned goods, and bottled water. " said donations will be properly turned over to the Naval Task Group-National Capital Region (NTG-NCR) for our frontliner troops and health workers," Roxas said. The donations were received by the Navy from MMC Foundation Executive Director Marge Barro at the service unit's headquarters in Manila. Roxas thanked the MMC Foundation which, she said, has been a consistent partner of the Navy in their humanitarian and disaster response (HADR) operations. She said the donations would make those working on the frontlines in the fight against COVID-19 more equipped. Earlier, the Navy deployed about 500 Marines to help man the checkpoints after President Duterte placed the entire Luzon mainland under enhanced community quarantine to limit the movement of people and prevent the spread of COVID-19. "With the enhanced community quarantine, our PN troops and health workers are now deployed in the different quarantine assistance stations to ensure the preventive measures COVID-19," Roxas said. She emphasized that their partner-organizations play a key role in ensuring the physical readiness of the troops and health workers as the fight against the deadly respiratory disease continues.
