PH logs biggest single-day jump in new COVID-19 cases at 22,820

The Department of Health (DOH) logged 22,820 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Thursday, Sept. 9, the biggest single-day tally since the pandemic hit the Philippines last year.
The previous record-high was last Monday, Sept. 6, when there were 22,415 fresh cases recorded then.
The country's running tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 2,161,892, of which, 7.7 percent or 166,672 are active cases or those who are still receiving medical treatment.
Of the active cases, 87 percent have mild symptoms, 8.3 percent are asymptomatic, 0.7 percent are critical, 1.4 percent are severe, and 2.65 percent are in moderate condition.
Earlier in the day, the DOH adjusted Wednesday's, Sept. 8, COVID-19 tally as it added 5,132 more cases. The DOH originally reported 12,751 infections on Wednesday. The DOH said that it encountered “technical issues” in its COVID-19 data collecting system. The technical issues have already been resolved, the DOH said.
Also, 61 deaths related to COVID-19 were reported, pushing the death toll to 34,733, the DOH said.
The recovery tally, meanwhile, jumped to 1,960,487 as 12,337 more patients recuperated.
“Sa mga susunod na araw ay maari pang tumaas ang ating mga kaso ng COVID-19 (In the coming days, our COVID-19 cases may still increase),” the DOH said.
“Ang maagang konsultasyon at pagpapatest ay makatutulong upang maputol ang hawaan sa mga bahay, komunidad, at sa mga lugar na pinagtatrabahuhan (Early consultation and testing can help cut down virus transmission in homes, communities, and workplaces),” it added.
