PH COVID-19 cases rise by over 12K

The Philippines recorded 12,751 additional cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Wednesday, Sept. 8----the lowest single-day tally in two weeks.

The new infections pushed the total COVID-19 cases in the country to 2,134,005, with active cases still at 151,135, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

The last time that the Philippines logged more than 12,000 new cases was last Aug. 24 with 12,067 cases.

Newly recorded cases on Wednesday were relatively low due to “technical issues” encountered by the DOH COVID-19 data collecting system.

“A technical issue with last night’s processing of COVID-19 data resulted in the relatively low numbers reported today,” the DOH said.

“This technical issue is currently being resolved with the Department of Information and Communications Technology,” it added.

The DOH said it is expecting that the cases will still continue to increase in the coming days.

Adherence to minimum public health standards, good practice of PDITR strategies, and vaccination remain the most effective defenses against COVID-19)," it said.

Meanwhile, a total of 174 more people died due to the viral illness, raising the death toll to 34,672. The country’s case fatality rate is at 1.62 percent.

The DOH also reported 20,151 more recoveries, causing the recovery tally to increase to 1,948,198 or 91.3 percent of the country's overall tally.
