CEBU CITY – The Philippine Army's (PA) 53rd Engineer Brigade vertical construction team has been building an emergency quarantine facility (EQF) at Camp Lapulapu, Cebu City since April 17 and hopes to complete the facility by the end of the week, according to 1st Lt. Mahinay said the EQF serves as a triage and confinement area for member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who fall under the status "probable with COVID-19 infection" to decongest the regular wards and prevent the spread of the coronavirus within the Central Command, AFP at Camp Lapulapu.
The project is funded by San Miguel Corporation and designed by William Ti and Associates (WTA) to support hospitals and institutions that are at maximum capacity and to provide additional space for patients who need to undergo quarantine, Mahinay said.
The lead consultant of Cebu Bayanihan-Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) from the Department of Health (DOH-7) Dr. Shawn Espina inspected the ongoing construction of the EQF on April 21, Mahinay added.
According to Mahinay, Espina visited the ongoing construction of the EQF with the architects of the project who shared their knowledge and expertise to improve the EQF of Camp Lapulapu.
Col. Gerardo Catindoy, commander of the 53rd Engineer Brigade, said the unit has been privileged to work with these people who unselfishly offered their assistance and consultation to improve the ongoing EQF construction within the camp.
