The PDP-Laban party leadership on Thursday asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to give its embattled president, Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, a few weeks to rest, recover and beat the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The appeal was made by Ron Munsayac, PDP-Laban executive and chief political officer of Pimentel, who said that it is reasonable and logical for the NBI to invite Pimentel for questioning on his possible violation of quarantine protocols.
Pimentel is in hot water after he breached hospital protocol when he escorted his pregnant wife, Kathryna Yu-Pimentel, to the hospital although he was on self-quarantine.
While he was still at MMC, Pimentel received a test result from the Research Institute for Tropicl Medicine (RTITM) that he was COVID-19 positive.
The MMC had chastised him for putting hospital frontliners at risk while others are after his hide.
In a related development, Kathryna Yu-Pimentel posted yesterday the photo of her and Pimentel’s first daughter, Ma. Kathryna Helena.
She called her daughter a “miracle baby.”
A Twitter account quoted the RITM stating that the infant was tested negative for corona virus but there was no mention of result of the test on Mrs. Pimentel.
There was no mention where and when was the Pimentel infant born.
Pimentel was also on self-quarantine on March 23, the first day of the two-day Senate special session to take up the Bayanihan Act of 2020.
He had isolated himself when his two colleagues - Senators Sherwin Gatchalian and Nancy Binay - feared that they could have been infected with the virus from a resource speaker during a committee hearing days before the special session. The resource speaker later admitted to Gatchalian that he was COVID-19 positive.
Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri and Senator Juan Edgardo M. Angara were also found to be COVID-19 positive.
Other senators voluntarily went on self-quarantine after the special session.
