Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) General Manager Royina Marzan-Garma on Friday said they have prepared the P420 million for PhilHealth as early as February, saying the agency has anticipated the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the country.
On March 25, the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-MEID) ordered the PCSO to transfer the P420 million to PhilHealth to augment the fund requirements of government for COVID-19.

"The agency anticipated the need for emergency response and readied the funds since COVID-19 became a serious threat globally early this year, and the first case in the country was reported," she said in a statement.
“Considering PCSO is the principal government agency for raising funds for health programs, medical assistance and services, and charities of national character, the agency will always be ready to help the government and the Filipino people in times of crisis,” she continued.
Meanwhile, the PCSO general manager assured the public will continuously help in the fight against the pandemic, and will work hand in hand with the national government during this battle.
This is despite the temporary suspension of PCSO operations in its main office and other offices in Luzon wherein the games affected are Lotto, Digit Games, and Keno in the whole country, and Small Town Lottery (STL) in Luzon.
“Our STLs in Visayas and Mindanao are still operating, but we are constantly monitoring the situation. I am assuring the public that we still have funds,” Garma said.
According to her, PCSO has set up a hotline to cater to people seeking medical assistance.
They may contact the agency for medical assistance at: 09457746439, 09152962243, and 09177035866; Landline: 0284043956; and e-mail: [email protected].
Individuals seeking medical assistance will be referred to hospitals with Malasakit Centers and other government hospitals, PCSO said.
“The agency also increased daily funding until April 16, 2020 to the Lung Center of the Philippines at P1 million, Philippine Children’s Medical Center at P400,000, Philippine Heart Center at P500,000, Philippine General Hospital at P1.5 million, Rizal Medical Center at P400,000, and Taguig Pateros District Hospital at P400,000 to further strengthen charity and social works amid the threat of the coronavirus.”
Garma urged the public to follow the orders and guidelines set by the IATF for their safety.
“Everyone can help stop the spread of COVID-19 virus by staying at home,” she said.
